Common Carrier AD&D (Accidental Death & Dismemberment)

Learn what's covered and how to file a claim for accidental loss of life, limb, sight, speech, or hearing while traveling on a common carrier.

  • What is covered?

    • This benefit provides coverage for Accidental Loss of Life, Limb, Sight, Speech, or Hearing that occurs while riding as a passenger in, entering, or exiting any licensed Common Carrier (such as a commercial airline, train, or bus).

    • It also covers you while traveling to or from the airport, terminal, or station in courtesy transportation or a public-hire vehicle immediately preceding departure or following arrival.

  • What are the coverage limits?

    • The maximum benefit is $500,000.00 for Accidental Loss of Life, Loss of Speech and Hearing, or Loss of multiple limbs/sight.

    • You are covered for 50% of the benefit ($250,000.00) for the loss of one hand, foot, sight in one eye, speech, or hearing.

    • You are covered for 25% of the benefit ($125,000.00) for the loss of a thumb and index finger on the same hand.

  • What is not covered (Exclusions)?

    • Losses occurring while acting or training as a pilot or crew member (except in a life-threatening emergency passenger takeover).

    • Losses due to emotional trauma, disease, pregnancy, childbirth, or bacterial/viral infections (unless the infection is directly caused by a covered accident).

    • Accidents occurring while under the influence of alcohol (intoxicated) or any non-prescribed controlled substance.

    • Participating in parachute jumping, military action, or flying on aircraft engaged in specialized aviation activities.

    • Suicide, attempted suicide, or intentionally self-inflicted injuries.

  • Who is the insurance provider?

    • This benefit is issued and managed by the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, located at 202B Hall's Mill Road, Whitehouse Station, New Jersey 08889.

Tip: Please reference Policy Number 9912-24-81. You must contact the Benefit Administrator within twenty (20) days of the accident or loss, or as soon as reasonably possible. Be prepared to provide your travel itinerary, a police report confirming the accident, an account statement showing the last 4 digits used to purchase the fare, and a copy of the death certificate if applicable.
