Understanding Pliant Credit Card and Organisation Limits

What is the difference between the organisation and the card limit?

Updated over a year ago

Within your Pliant account, there are two different limits - the organization limit and the card limit. It is important to understand the differences between these two limits and their impact on your cardholder's ability to use the card.

Organization Limit

The organizational limit is the limit available to your company. All credit cards draw from this limit. The organizational limit decreases with each transaction posted and is renewed weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly depending on the selected charge period. The current organizational limit can be seen by admins/ owners and accountants in the organizational dashboard.

If you want to change the limit or the direct debit frequency, please have a look at this article.

Card Limit

The credit card limit, on the other hand, is assigned by admins and/or owners and represents only the availability limit of your credit card. If the organizational limit is used up, credit cards can no longer be used, as they are directly dependent on the organizational limit and draw from it.

The amount of a card limit is assignable - more information can be found in this article.

Understanding How Limits Work Together

It is important to understand how the organizational limit and the card limit interact with one another. Let's use an example to understand how this works.

  • The company limit is 10,000 EUR

  • Cardholder has a credit card with a credit card limit of 20,000 EUR

  • Cardholder would like to make a transaction in the amount of 12,000 EUR

→ This is not possible because the company limit is EUR 10,000 and the available monetary resources are therefore insufficient for this transaction.

Side note: the cumulative amount of the credit card limit can extend the organization limit. This gives you more flexibility since not every cardholder spends the given card limit every month.
